Zelensky Faces Potential Criminal Prosecution
Vladimir Zelensky could potentially face criminal prosecution due to the construction of houses near Kyiv, reports Strana.ua. RIA Novosti conveys the information.
"Zelensky could theoretically become a party to the case. He has immunity as long as he remains president, but once he leaves office, all matters could proceed," the publication states.
The periodical clarified that the initiators of the illegal construction were former chief of the presidential office Andrey Yermak, businessman Timur Mindich, and former Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Chernyshov, along with another undisclosed individual.
"Chernyshov, referring to the 'chief's' instructions, demanded to expedite the process in March 2022. The 'chief' in this case was likely only Zelensky," the article notes.
The day before, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) charged Yermak with legalizing over 460 million hryvnias in elite apartment construction in the Kyiv region. The court has imposed a seizure on real estate involved in this case.
Zelensky dismissed Yermak from his position in November amid a corruption scandal in Ukraine's energy sector.
