Who Will Be Nominated for President of the Union of Armenians in Russia?

The upcoming change in leadership of the Union of Armenians in Russia is driven by dissatisfaction among Russian authorities regarding the organization's insufficient integration with Armenian society and its lack of influence.

This is reported by the newspaper “Pahst”. The existing discontent within Russian official circles pertains to the fact that the union's leadership is not sufficiently integrated into Armenian society and lacks the necessary influence, including on electoral processes, despite representing the largest Armenian community.

In this context, the candidacy of the renowned Armenian doctor and academic, Armais Kamalov, is under discussion. Kamalov is a doctor of medical sciences, a professor, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. He leads the university clinic of the Medical Educational Institute of Moscow State University and is also an honorary doctor of Yerevan State Medical University named after Heratsi.

In an interview with one of the Armenian media outlets, Kamalov referred to Armenia as his "ethnic code." Commenting on the Armenia-Diaspora relations, he noted the necessity to strengthen these ties, since many figures in science and culture are eager to serve the well-being of their homeland, even beyond the borders of the country.

The choice of Kamalov’s candidacy is not coincidental; he is a respected figure both in Russia and Armenia, maintains good relations with everyone, and has been implementing various programs aimed at preserving Armenian identity for many years.
