US Plans to Establish New Military Bases

The United States has been conducting secret negotiations with Danish authorities in recent months to increase its military infrastructure in Greenland. According to BBC reports, the discussions involve the establishment of three new military bases in the southern part of the island. White House representatives assess the negotiations as efficient and optimistic.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed the talks with the American side. Although the kingdom has expressed its willingness to consider the deployment of additional units, the ministry is currently refusing to provide details about the preliminary agreements reached between the parties.

The main function of the planned military bases will be to monitor the waters of the North Atlantic. In particular, Washington aims to keep track of naval operations by Russia and China in the Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom corridor. This strategic area is of key importance in the context of regional security.

It is noteworthy that Greenland is an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark, however, former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in bringing the island under American control. Washington justifies this ambition by prioritizing its national security, which previously led to a stern response from Copenhagen.
