Russia's Foreign Ministry's 'Tough' Response to Armenia: Brussels Considers Yerevan as a Tool

Mikhail Kalugin, the director of the fourth department for the CIS countries at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed Armenia-EU relations in an interview with TASS news agency. According to the Russian diplomat, Brussels views Yerevan as a tool to achieve its geopolitical goals in the context of confrontation with Moscow.

Kalugin asserted that the European Union's policy is aimed at weakening the existing ties between Armenia and Russia. The representative of the Russian foreign policy agency noted that the EU intends to use the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia to expand its influence.

He drew attention to the two European missions operating in the republic, comparing them to structures that previously operated during Moldova's electoral processes. According to the diplomat, despite neutral formulations, the real purpose of these missions is to establish control over the political and economic life of the country.

In addition, Kalugin accused the European side of attempting to foster negative attitudes towards Russia within Armenian society. He stated that the accusations leveled against Moscow regarding interference in Armenia's internal affairs or conducting hybrid attacks are unfounded.

The Russian Foreign Ministry representative emphasized that Western organizations are deliberately working to reduce Russia's presence in the region.
