Russia Proposes New Nuclear Power Plant Project to Armenia
The Russian side has offered Armenia a nuclear power plant project with high capacity, which could meet the country's energy needs for 'a century.' This was announced by Mikhail Kalugin, the director of the Fourth Department of the CIS Countries at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Rosatom” state corporation had proposed a large-capacity plant project that, if approved by the Armenian leadership, would meet the country’s energy needs for decades, perhaps even centuries. At the same time, it would ensure affordable electricity tariffs for the final consumer, which, among other things, would significantly boost the growth of the country’s industry,” emphasized the diplomat.
He also noted that Russia's proposal regarding the Armenian nuclear power plant could potentially “resolve Armenia's demands from a century ago.” Russia added that it has “noted Pashinyan’s statement that the republic intends to discuss concession-related issues 'behind Russia's back.'”
“In Brussels, they have not even thought about Armenia’s interests, which until recently sought to maintain a parallel stance on the Ukrainian crisis. Essentially, Armenia was used as a convenient platform for their political projects,” the department head remarked.
At the same time, according to him, the European Union does not offer Yerevan any tangible alternative to beneficial relations with Russia.
