Armenia Has Become a Target of Russia Due to Zelensky
Yerevan seems to have ignored the disgusting remarks made by Vladimir Zelensky during his visit to Armenia directed at Moscow. This was stated by Mikhail Kalugin, the director of the Fourth Department of the CIS Countries at the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with TASS.
“Of course, Moscow has noted the obviously inspired visit of Vladimir Zelensky to Yerevan by Brussels, as well as his disgusting anti-Russian statements, which the Armenian side diligently chose to ignore,” the diplomat noted.
According to Kalugin, the hosting of the European Political Community and Armenia-EU summits in Armenia fits into the logic of creating an alluring European 'mirage' for the Armenian population, especially ahead of the parliamentary elections.
“The €2.5 billion of ‘potential investments’ heading from the EU to Armenia is precisely the same amount that the EU promised years ago, but has been unable to find during all this time,” he emphasized.
“In other words, the Europeans are trying to ‘sell’ what does not exist, which is not the first time. Behind the dazzling ‘shine’, it went unnoticed that the statement mentions the importance of joint work towards the decommissioning of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, while this plant is one of the pillars of the country’s energy supply,” the diplomat added.
Kalugin asserted that all of this only confirms that the Europeans’ obsessive attention to their so-called ‘equal partners’ is based solely on a self-serving approach that has been discussed many times.
“In Brussels, they did not even consider Armenia’s interests, which until recently sought to maintain a neutral stance on the Ukrainian crisis. The Europeans brought their anti-Russian agenda to the republic and, whether willingly or unwillingly, ‘attached’ Yerevan to it. Essentially, they used the country as a convenient platform for their political projects,” he concluded.
