Three-Day Ceasefire Violated: Zelensky Warns Response Will Be Very Painful
The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that the Ukrainian armed forces are not adhering to the ceasefire declared from May 9 to 11, mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump. According to official Russian reports, thousands of strikes have been recorded in the past day using drones and artillery. The targets include frontline positions as well as civilian objects in Russia's border regions including Belgorod, Kursk, Kaluga, Rostov, and Crimea. Moscow emphasizes that Russian troops are only engaging in 'retaliatory' operations by targeting enemy firing points.
In response, Kyiv denies adhering to a regime of silence by the Russian military. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that on May 10, approximately 144 combat clashes occurred along the front line. The Ukrainian side claims that Russia has used over 5,000 kamikaze drones and has repeatedly shelled residential areas and positions. Major battles continue in the directions of Kupiansk, Konstantinovka, and Pokrovsk.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing the situation, indicated that although there were no long-range attacks on May 9 and 10 due to the absence of massive missile strikes from the Russian side, the situation along the contact line remains tense. He stressed that there is no operational 'silence regime' at the front, and Ukrainian units are responding to enemy actions. Zelensky also warned that should large-scale military operations resume after the ceasefire ends, Ukraine's response will be very painful, immediate, and significant.
