See Who We Faced Off Against: Aliyev's Shocking Statement
During the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, no matter how much pressure was applied against us, it was all in vain. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as reported by APA.
“Although there were quite a few who wanted to stop us. First of all, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, the countries that were then leading it. Each of them wanted to stop us for their own reasons. During the 44 days, we faced pressure many times. These are not ordinary countries, but nuclear powers, permanent members of the UN Security Council. See who we faced off against. Each of them tried in every way to make that occupation eternal, to use it as a tool, and ultimately prevent the Azerbaijani people from breathing freely. Not only they, but also other countries did not want our victory. To demonstrate strong will before them, to declare to their faces that we would die but not deviate from our path, of course, required enormous willpower. And again, just like in 1993, we needed the support of the people. That support was there, and our entire population united as one fist. That was what gave me strength,” said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
