The Chief Prosecutor Lists the Properties Demanded from Kocharian and the MPs
The real reason behind the targeting of all opposition MPs' speeches, as well as attacks against the Prosecutor’s Office and myself, is the 'discomfort' caused by the claims for the confiscation of illegally acquired properties from these individuals. Anna Vardapetyan, the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia, announced this today in the National Assembly and listed the illegally acquired properties and monetary assets demanded from former Armenian President Robert Kocharian, former Deputy Prime Minister and current MP Armen Gevorgyan, and MPs Ishkhan Saghatelyan and Agvaz Vardanyan.
Specifically, from former President Robert Kocharian and six persons connected to him, including his children and their spouses (Sedrak Kocharian, Zarouhi Badalyan, Levon Kocharian, Siranush Kocharian, Gayane Kocharian, and Vigen Chatinyan), the following assets are demanded for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia: 23 real estate properties, with a total estimated market value of 11 billion 154 million 790 thousand drams for 18 of them. Of these properties, 19 are located in the Kentron administrative district, including 8 on Paronyan Street, 4 apartments on Northern Avenue, 2 on Abovyan Street, 2 on Vazgen Sargsyan Street, 2 on Teryan Street, and one on Manouk Abeghyan Street.
The claim also includes rights to purchase 2 properties, bonds purchased for over 3 million dollars and 985 million drams, deposits of over 1.4 million dollars, and 200 million drams. Additionally, the claim includes participation in 15 legal entities, including companies such as LLC 'Toyota Yerevan', and 'Nairi Insurance' LLC, among others. Furthermore, it demands rights for loan claims amounting to 4 million dollars, 8.3 billion drams, 260 million rubles, and about 590 thousand euros. It also encompasses 2 vehicles, and acquisition costs equivalent to more than 3.8 billion drams. The claim includes over 20 billion drams as residual amounts of illegal income and unidentified funds transferred to bona fide purchasers.
The investigation is currently in the preliminary court hearings stage.
From former Chief of Staff to the President of Armenia, former Secretary of the National Security Council, former Deputy Prime Minister, former Minister of Territorial Administration, and current MP Armen Gevorgyan and individuals connected to him, the following is demanded: 14 real estate properties, 2 vehicles, participation in 2 legal entities, 1 billion 85 million 99 thousand drams in loan claims, 1100 securities, and 1 billion 111 million 685 thousand drams as residual illegal monetary assets. Additionally, 410 million 581 thousand drams, which cannot be justified by the individual’s legal income and has illegal origins, has also been transferred to bona fide purchasers or cannot be identified for confiscation.
From ‘Armenia’ bloc MP and former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Agvaz Vardanian and individuals connected to him, the following is demanded: 1 real estate property located in Kotayk Province, participation in 1 legal entity, 110 million 306 thousand drams as residual illegal income, 248 million 267 thousand drams that cannot be justified by Vardanian’s legal income, which has illegal origins, has been transferred to bona fide purchasers or cannot be identified.
From National Assembly MP Ishkhan Vachik Saghatelyan and individuals connected to him, the following is demanded: 5 real estate properties, 5 vehicles, participation in 3 legal entities, 264 million 516 thousand drams as residual illegal monetary assets, and 2 million 914 thousand drams that cannot be justified by the individual's legal income and has illegal origins, transferred to bona fide purchasers or unidentifiable for confiscation.
“What is interesting is that when we ask about the origins of the illegally acquired properties, we hear three explanations: 'we received a gift, our grandparents were rich, our children are talented.' The courts will still discuss the issue of 'grandparents and talented children',” said Anna Vardapetyan and thanked the Court of Cassation for resolving the gift issue, establishing clear conditions and cases for receiving gifts.
