Pezeshkian Presents Conditions; No Response Yet from the US

The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has stated that discussions regarding the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz are only possible if the maritime blockade imposed by the United States is lifted.

During a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Pezeshkian outlined the Islamic Republic's position. According to a statement from the Iranian president's press service via Telegram, he specifically remarked: “Any negotiations for the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz require the cessation of the US maritime blockade, and this step must be taken into account,” said the Iranian president.

It is noteworthy that since February 28, the United States and Israel have begun strikes against targets within Iranian territory, resulting in over 3,000 fatalities. On April 8, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire, but subsequent negotiations in Islamabad yielded no results. While there have been no reports of the resumption of military operations, the US has commenced its blockade of Iranian ports. Currently, mediators are working to organize a new negotiation process.
