VIDEO: Should I be insulted with sexual slurs and stay silent, saying we're in Norway? - Alen Simonyan

Alen Simonyan, in a conversation with reporters, stated that he believes freedom of speech in Armenia is currently overexposed. This comment comes in light of international reports indicating a decline in Armenia's ranking on freedom of speech from 34th to 50th place.

“In my opinion, 90-95% of the media landscape belongs to the opposition; what does that indicate? Today, who thinks before speaking that their words will be limited? Anyone can say anything,” he noted.

On the subject of being at the forefront of suing media outlets and bloggers, Simonyan remarked, “How can I defend myself? I am one of the most discussed and active political figures. Now anyone can come, turn on their phone, and insult me sexually, and I should stay silent, saying, 'Are we in Norway?' In the past, it wouldn’t even cross someone’s mind to do such a thing; news reporters wouldn’t even think to ask, as they would be beaten in the ‘padeezd’ or would get penalized in the National Assembly, as those people would just say, ‘What business do we have with this?’”
