What to Expect on the Eve of Elections: 'Zhoghovourd'
The 'Zhoghovourd' newspaper reports: 'The CEC has published the schedule for the National Assembly elections in 2026; the major phases and deadlines have been established. The Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Armenia has released the timeline for the preparation and holding of the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 7, 2026, clarifying all phases of the electoral process and important deadlines.
According to the published schedule, the electoral process is entering an active phase. The newspaper has learned that the electoral lists of political parties and alliances will be published on the CEC's official website shortly after the deadline for registering electoral lists, within three days, by May 6, 2026.
In order to ensure financial transparency, it has been established that the banks must periodically present data regarding the financial movement of the bank accounts of the political parties and alliances involved in the elections to the Anti-Corruption Commission every three working days. The Anti-Corruption Commission will compile and publish this data on its website, starting from May 7 until the third day after voting.
The schedule also includes the phase for organizing electronic voting; envelopes containing individual codes for voters who vote electronically will be provided to the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense within 10 days after receiving the respective lists, by May 7. The distribution of positions among the heads and secretaries of the precinct electoral commissions will take place by May 8, according to the electoral precincts. The same day is also the deadline for political parties and alliances to open pre-election funds that must operate in Yerevan and any commercial bank with branches in all provinces.
The official pre-election campaign phase will start on May 8 and continue until June 5 at 24:00, during which voters and political forces will have the opportunity to conduct active campaigning.
From May 8 to May 13, at 18:00, applications for the appointment of members of the precinct electoral commissions will be submitted to the CEC. At the same time, until May 13, political parties, alliances, and candidates included in their lists are required to submit their property and income declarations. The first meetings of the precinct electoral commissions are scheduled for May 16 at 12:00, which is a significant phase in organizing the electoral process.
In addition, the timeline includes several control and registration measures. In particular, until May 23, the relevant bodies must present the number of registered voters in military units, national security and police forces, as well as in correctional institutions, to the CEC. It is also noted that individuals involved in the electoral process, including members of precinct commissions and technical specialists, can apply until May 24 to temporarily deregister from their place of registration and register at the electoral precinct corresponding to their location.
Overall, the schedule published by the CEC aims to ensure an organized, transparent, and accountable implementation of the electoral process by defining clear phases and responsible bodies.
