Cubs of the Endangered Brown Bear Found in Jermuk Transferred to Shelter

On May 4, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia received a report from the Chief Department of Community Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the discovery of two bear cubs on a raised section of the retaining wall in Jermuk, Vayots Dzor Province.

This was reported by the Ministry of Environment. Following an immediate response by inspectors, it was determined at the scene that the helpless wild animals are approximately one-month-old cubs of the brown bear, which is listed in the Red Book of Armenia.

External examinations revealed that the wild animals did not have any injuries. To ensure proper care for the cubs and eventually return them to their natural habitat, the animals have been transferred to the Caucasus Biodiversity Shelter of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Values (FPWC) in Urtadzor.
