The Meeting with the Prime Minister Was Wonderful: President of the European Parliament

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, is in Yerevan to participate in the 8th Summit of the European Political Community and has praised Armenia's commitment to democracy.

Roberta Metsola, who arrived in Armenia to attend the European Political Community (EPC) 8th Summit, expressed her appreciation for the country’s dedication to strong democracy during a conversation with journalists. “It is very pleasant for me to be here in beautiful Yerevan. I am very grateful for the invitation we received from Prime Minister Pashinyan a few weeks after his speech in the European Parliament and just days after we adopted a resolution by an overwhelming majority that welcomes Armenia’s commitment to strong democracy and European values that we all uphold,” she stated.

“In this increasingly unpredictable world today, we also welcome that Canadian Prime Minister Mr. Trudeau is here. We are here to discuss ways of further integration with our allies and partners around the world. Yesterday, I had a meeting with the Prime Minister, and I can tell you that it was wonderful; we discussed the next steps we can take to get closer to those who share our values and commitment to the fundamental principles of our societies,” she added.

Metsola noted that the fight against disinformation and hybrid threats, which pose a real danger to democracy, will also be discussed. According to her, wars are waged in the digital realm as well, targeting the vulnerable sectors of society. She added that they are committed to working with social platforms so that unifying tools are not used against democracies.

Regarding artificial intelligence, the President of the European Parliament emphasized that concerns should not hinder its use to address challenges and protect democracies. Metsola concluded by stating that political will is necessary to solve the problems, which, in her opinion, will be demonstrated today.
