Armenia Has Freed Itself from Russian Influence, Macron

Armenia has freed itself from Russian influence and chosen the path towards Europe. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron during a conversation with journalists in Yerevan.

He also addressed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during an official meeting, saying, “Mr. Prime Minister, dear Nikol, since you mentioned those events, I truly haven't forgotten anything from that night in the fall of 2022. Only two years had passed since the start of the war. The situation was extremely unstable, and you demonstrated great courage in making decisions for your country.

“But I want to say something simple. First of all, France, at that moment, in my opinion, fulfilled its duty. Yes, many in Europe and beyond viewed us as some kind of strange phenomenon for supporting Armenia so unconditionally. Furthermore, to be honest, after the meeting that the Prime Minister mentioned, I was, in fact, no longer invited to further sessions until the conflict was resolved by President Aliyev.

“And our vision of peace is that we must be alongside such fair processes that uphold international order, even if it does not bring us immediate benefit. Even if pragmatic calculations suggest otherwise.

“There is something special in the relationships between our countries and peoples. Why did French intellectuals love Armenia, even when they had never been here? Because it was unbearable for them to see how this country was passing from one empire to another. Why did the French fleet come here? Not just to condemn, but also to save – because that was considered France's just mission.

“I accept the awards presented today with great honor. They represent a phase of our common history that binds us. Because it is you, it is us – that is the connection between Armenia and France.

“And that is why your choice of complete independence, peace, and stability in this unstable region is the choice we support because we consider it right. We believe it corresponds to your people, the current moment, geopolitical logic, and European interests. We want to be a part of this path.

“The strategic partnership to be signed tomorrow will formalize the unprecedented efforts we have undertaken together in the field of defense in recent years. Our relations have never been at this level. This will open new economic pages and strengthen educational, linguistic, and cultural ties.

“But let me say this: for us, the ‘True Armenia’ is inseparable from the ‘Dream Armenia’. You have chosen a European, peaceful, and prosperous Armenia. This Armenia, with its entire history and essence, is what we love and accept,” concluded the French President.
