Narek Karapetyan Discusses Conditions for Trade with Turkey

Member of the "Strong Armenia" party council, Narek Karapetyan, addressed the issue of trade with Turkey and the protection of Armenian interests during a press conference held in the Ararat region.

Karapetyan stated that they are in favor of trade with Turkey, but strictly on the condition of advancing Armenian interests. He mentioned that they support the unblocking of trade routes and the increase of trade within the borders of Armenia, particularly with Turkey, to facilitate access to European markets.

At the same time, he emphasized the need for the government to implement a proper economic policy that would prevent Turkish agricultural products from undermining Armenian farmers. "Turkey subsidizes 50% of the gas for its farmers, and the state pays 50% of the electricity costs. In this context, they are creating reservoirs on the Euphrates River and have no issues with water. They will be able to suffocate our farmers' products with this subsidized cheap produce, putting them into poverty. The way to combat this is to protect local producers, implement sound economic policies, and have a leader who can say 'no' when it is disadvantageous for us and 'yes' where Armenian interests are at stake," Karapetyan stated.
