Video: We Invite Turkey to Join Us in Weaving the Fabric of Peace, Says Alen Simonyan
The President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, delivered a speech during the general discussions of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Istanbul on April 16.
In his speech, addressing the agenda for peace, he specifically stated: “Peace has reigned in our region after the agreement signed by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States in 2025. This is, indeed, a tremendous achievement. However, our vision is broader. We invite Turkey to become a partner and to join us in weaving the fabric of peace. To this end, we are ready to deepen our relations with Turkey.”
“After decades of distrust and hostility, a new era of confidence-building has begun between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Efforts to strengthen this progress are now focused on enhancing communications and ensuring that peace on the ground is effectively realized.”
“The implementation of the ‘Trump Path for International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIHP) project is yet another significant milestone. This initiative aims to simultaneously develop regional ties and expand international trade routes. Based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction, TRIHP has the potential to promote stability, economic cooperation, and prosperity in the South Caucasus and beyond.”
“The encouraging signs of resolution are undeniable. For the first time in years, trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan has begun to take shape. The import of Azerbaijani goods into Armenia is a symbolic and practical step in the restoration of economic ties. These are the results of peace—tangible improvements that directly benefit our people.”
“At the same time, significant humanitarian issues still remain to be addressed. To continue building trust and achieve genuine reconciliation, the 19 Armenians held in Azerbaijan must be released and reunited with their families, and the fates of other missing persons must be clarified.”
