Video: You're Banning This Two Months Before Elections? Are You Serious? Hayk Mamijanyan

Ani S.

“This process is inherently unlawful,” stated Hayk Mamijanyan, the head of the ‘Honorary’ parliamentary group, during today’s extraordinary session of the National Assembly, addressing the amendments proposed to the electoral code.

It should be noted that one of the agenda items of today’s extraordinary session is the draft constitutional law amending the 'Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia'. Among the proposed amendments is the point stating: “The name of the party alliance cannot contain personal names, names of state and local self-government bodies, or names that are similar to those to a degree that could cause confusion, and/or their declensions. The name of the party alliance cannot contain offensive or defamatory words or other expressions.”

“You are changing the electoral legislation two months before the elections. And if someone says that this is not a fundamental change, are you serious? The largest opposition force has already announced its name and you are introducing a law that bans doing that, are you serious?” said Mamijanyan, adding that 'Honorary' will vote against the draft.
