Certain Banknotes to Be Withdrawn from Circulation

Starting from April 15, 2026, second-generation banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation due to natural wear. This information has been reported by the Central Bank of Armenia.

Until April 15, these banknotes will be considered legal tender. After this date, citizens can exchange their 'old' issuance banknotes for free and indefinitely at commercial banks operating in the territory of Armenia and at the Central Bank, without restrictions.

According to a decision by the Central Bank Council dated April 28, 2025, the following second-generation banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation:

  • 500 AMD issued in 1999 (featuring the portrait of Alexander Tamanyan)
  • 1000 AMD issued in 1999, 2001, 2011, and 2015 (featuring the portrait of Yeghishe Charents)
  • 5000 AMD issued in 1999, 2003, 2009, and 2012 (featuring the portrait of Hovhannes Tumanyan)
  • 10000 AMD issued in 2003, 2006, 2008, and 2012 (featuring the portrait of Avetik Isahakyan)
  • 20000 AMD issued in 1999, 2007, 2009, and 2012 (featuring the portrait of Martiros Saryan)
