Kallas and Rubio Clash: EU Diplomacy Chief Provides Details

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has confirmed that discussions during the G7 foreign ministers' meeting were tense between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and him, but he described them as open and straightforward dialogue.

Earlier, the Axios portal reported that disagreements between the parties were related to the role of the US in the resolution process concerning Ukraine. According to the publication, Kallas' critical remarks escalated the situation, prompting Rubio to respond forcefully, even threatening a withdrawal of the US from the negotiations.

Kallas commented on this information, stating that such meetings are intended for the open exchange of opinions on various issues. According to him, ministers discuss not only the war in Ukraine and further steps but also other regional problems in G7 and EU formats.

He added that in such platforms, it is natural for parties to present different approaches and proposals, emphasizing that discussions also included the Middle East topic and potential avenues for cooperation.
