Passage of Ships Through the Hormuz Strait to Become Paid
Mariam Z.
According to a new Iranian law, commercial vessels will be required to pay a fee to navigate through the Hormuz Strait. This was announced by Alaudin Boroujerdi, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee.
“The safety and transit services for ships will be provided on a paid basis,” said Boroujerdi.
Since the start of the US-Israel war on February 28, Iran has effectively closed the Hormuz Strait to navigation. Commercial vessels have repeatedly been targeted by drone strikes. Unimpeded passage has been granted to ships from friendly countries and those maintaining neutrality.
According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt may form a consortium to manage oil flows through the Hormuz Strait.
