Trump Hopes to End War with Iran by Mid-May, WSJ
U.S. President Donald Trump has informed his supporters that he would like to avoid a protracted war with Iran and finish it in the coming weeks, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to sources speaking to WSJ, the White House hopes that the war will be concluded before Trump's scheduled meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on May 14-15.
Sources for the publication indicated that Trump has told his advisors in private conversations that he believes the war with Iran is in its final stages, and it is necessary to maintain the timeframe of four to six weeks previously mentioned for military operations.
“From the very beginning, we hoped for a duration of four to five weeks for military operations, but we have the ability to conduct the war for a much longer time,” Trump reportedly stated.
The publication notes that as of the end of March, Trump does not have easy options for stopping the war, and peace negotiations are still in their early stages.
According to WSJ sources, the U.S. President also believes that the war with Iran is diverting him from other goals. However, he has not specified what those goals are, although some sources suggest it could be related to regime change in Cuba.
