Sister of Abused Child Faces Health Issues: Director of Children’s Protection Center

A 3-year-old girl, sister of a 2-year-old boy who was regularly beaten by his stepmother, has been transferred to the Children’s Protection Center of the Armenian Fund for Humanitarian Relief (AFHR) two days ago. The girl lives in Darakert village, Ararat province, under the care of her grandmother.

Mira Antonian, the director of the center, shared the news in an interview with News. “I cannot provide much information yet; we have just admitted the child, and she is undergoing medical examinations. She has serious health issues. There are no signs of physical abuse, nor any intellectual problems, but she does have physical health concerns. This could be a result of neglect, but it may have other causes as well; we cannot say at this moment,” Antonian noted.

When asked how long the child is expected to stay at the AFHR, Antonian responded, “We are still in the examination stage. We need to understand the situation and how these processes are being handled. I assume it will be a long-term process.”

According to Antonian, the child’s parents have not visited the center in the last two days and have not seen the child.
