Old Willows in Yerevan Have Lost Their Vitality: Begoyan
In Yerevan, the average lifespan of trees is around 40-50 years, resulting in preserved trees in the city being approximately 70-80 years old. This was announced by Armen Begoyan, the director of the Municipal Administration of Greening and Environmental Protection, during a conversation with journalists.
“If a person is 100 years old, they have lived their age, no matter how many medications we provide, we cannot rejuvenate or immortalize them. In nature, everything—trees, shrubs, humans, dogs, cats—has its lifespan, and for willows, that lifespan has long expired,” said Begoyan.
According to Begoyan, pests are decomposing the entire structure of the trees, which results in the loss of the root-canopy correlation, and as a consequence, the canopies also disappear. He emphasized that willows also have a negative ecological impact.
“These decayed trees are breeding grounds for pests, or as people say, for those worms and rot, which then spread throughout the city's entire green area,” added Armen Begoyan, the director of the Municipal Administration of Greening and Environmental Protection.
