Pensions Will Increase, But It’s Coming from Our Noses Says Edmon Marukyan

Mariam Z.

Today we have good news. According to the Prime Minister's announcement, pensions will increase starting from April 1. Low pensions will rise by 10,000 drams, while higher pensions will see a smaller increase. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the ‘Bright Armenia’ party.

He noted that the authorities initially did not have such an increase planned, insisting that an increase of 10,000 drams was ineffective and that those funds should be directed towards the healthcare sector. Marukyan pointed out that at the same time, the authorities allocated around 3.5 billion drams in the form of bonuses through a secret decree.

He emphasized that the decision to increase pensions was made after his public criticism, as well as inquiries raised by opposition forces and media, considering it a result of public pressure. According to Marukyan, if such a program did not exist initially, questions arise about where the additional funds have come from. He also stated that this move has a pre-election nature.

In conclusion, Marukyan stressed that while the pension increase should be appreciated, citizens should not be misled by it, urging them to make an informed choice.
