Louvre Museum Director Resigns
Laurent de Cars has served as the director of the Louvre since 2021. However, following a robbery at France's premier museum in the autumn of 2025, he decided to resign. His resignation has been accepted by French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the Élysée Palace press service.
“The head of state accepted it, noting this move as a sign of responsibility at a time when the world’s largest museum needs rest and a new, strong impetus to successfully implement modern security and modernization projects,” stated the official announcement.
Macron also thanked Laurent de Cars for his indisputable expertise and dedication in recent years. He mentioned that the former director could be assigned to coordinate cooperation between major museums in their respective countries during France’s G7 presidency.
