Russia Likely to Launch Extensive Campaign in Armenia in 2026: Estonia's FIS
Washington's involvement in the South Caucasus and the signing of agreements with Armenia and Azerbaijan could signal the beginning of Russia's expulsion from the region, according to Estonia's Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS) 2026 report. The document states that this poses a threat to Kremlin's geopolitical interests.
In response, Russia is expected to do everything possible to prevent the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the establishment of a transit corridor named after President Donald Trump.
Thus, Russia is likely to launch a large-scale campaign to exert influence in Armenia in 2026. This campaign will aim to interfere in the parliamentary elections in Armenia, remove Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from power, and establish a government that appears nationalist but is, in fact, under Russia's control,” the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service report states.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is currently on a working visit to Washington.
