US Armed Forces Prepare for Long-Term Action Against Iran: Reuters
The US Armed Forces are preparing for a long-term military operation against Iran, should President Donald Trump give the order to strike, reports Reuters, citing two anonymous American officials.
It is noteworthy that negotiations between the US and Iran are scheduled to take place in Geneva on February 17. US Special Envoy Steve Ricchetti and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will meet with Iranian representatives, while Omani officials will act as mediators.
Ahead of the negotiations, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Trump would prefer to reach an agreement with Iran, but “that’s very hard to do.”
The US President, for his part, mentioned the possibility of a change in the Iranian government on February 13, stating that “it seems to be the best thing that could happen.” He did not respond when asked who could lead the country but said that “there are such people.”
Additionally, in recent months, the US has deployed two naval fleets to the Middle East, headed by the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carriers. Moreover, according to The Wall Street Journal, another aircraft carrier, the USS George H.W. Bush, has been ordered to be stationed in the Middle East.
