Damage of 6 Million Drams: Former Village Head's Case Sent to Court

The individual who held the position of the head of the Dprabak community in Gegharkunik Province has been accused of misusing his official position to legalize property acquired through criminal means, by concealing the true nature, source, and ownership of that property, as reported by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that in April 2013, upon learning that a relevant company sought to acquire land for the purpose of installing a mobile communication station in the community, he aimed to unlawfully remove predetermined real estate from the community's balance and register it in his brother's name, thus organizing the process of effectively becoming its owner.

To execute this criminal intent, the official organized and conducted an auction-sale of the land plot, and in violation of the legal procedure for conducting auctions, allowed his brother to participate in the auction, selling the land to him. Subsequently, a real estate lease agreement was signed between the former village head’s brother and the mentioned company.

As a result, a lease payment of 5,924,000 AMD was transferred to the bank accounts of the village head and his brother; however, the entire amount was managed by the village head.

The former head of the Dprabak community has been charged with the legalization of property acquired through criminal means (money laundering). According to the decision of the prosecuting body, the aforementioned real estate has been seized, and the damage caused to the state amounting to approximately 6 million drams has been fully restored during the preliminary investigation. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the materials of the case have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia with an accusatory conclusion," the statement said.
