Azerbaijan Ready for Peace Treaty with Conditions: MP

Azerbaijan can sign a peace treaty with Armenia before this year's June elections, as stated by Gudrat Hasanguliyev, a member of Azerbaijan's Milli Mejlis, during a parliamentary session, according to the APA news agency.

The MP emphasized that for the treaty to be signed, Armenia must commit not to include any territorial demands against Azerbaijan in its new Constitution. He reminded that according to Azerbaijani legislation, the Armenian-Azerbaijani war is recognized as a 'Patriotic War,' and thus the signing of a peace treaty requires the consent of the Milli Mejlis.

Hasanguliyev noted that a preliminary agreement on the peace treaty was made last August and is now necessary to be discussed in parliament. He proposed to include the issue in the working agenda of the Milli Mejlis's spring session.

The MP also addressed the topic of regional communications, stating that currently cargoes are being transported to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, while Azerbaijan supplies fuel to Armenia. In his opinion, under these conditions, it is also possible to transport Azerbaijani cargoes through Armenian territory and to restore railway communication, including the Sadarak-Yerevan route. He added that the opening of Turkey-Armenia roads before March is also under discussion and that developing Nakhchivan requires ensuring cargo transportation via the railway through Armenia.
