Gagik Arushanyan on the Murder in Goris: A National Tragedy

I did not want to comment on the tragedy of yesterday, as the entire internet is already flooded with cheap and disgraceful posts one after another, but there is a greater, national tragedy that does not allow silence. This was stated by Gagik Arushanyan, the father of Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan, on his Facebook page.

He specifically noted: “First, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased; this is deep sorrow, which should give us a lot of food for thought, and each of us must reevaluate our lives, understand the crucial lesson of this tragedy, that none of us will take anything with us from this life… The second tragedy, which is no less than the first, is our cheap and low nature, our tendency to overlook and disregard the good and the national, the immorality of endlessly manipulating society and even using such tragedies for their own benefit… What more can I add? With such values, such a mindset, and such a national attitude, we cannot only correct our fragmented spine, but with each passing day, we will sink deeper and deeper, and very soon we will not be destroyed by anyone else, but we will self-destruct… As the great novelist Raffi said, ‘…We have no friends and we cannot have any, because we do not even love ourselves. Whoever does not love their nation and homeland has no right to demand love from others. We have created our miserable situation ourselves; no one else is to blame,’” he wrote.
