Obama Calls the Killing of Alex Pretti a Tragedy

Barack Obama has described the killing of Alex Pretti as a tragedy and urged U.S. authorities to reassess the conduct of federal agents. The former president and former first lady released a joint statement on the X social media platform, labeling Alex Pretti's death as a "heart-wrenching tragedy."

The statement emphasized that the incident should serve as "a wake-up call for every American," as "fundamental values are increasingly under threat." For weeks, people across the country have expressed outrage over the actions of "masked ICE agents and other federal officers who operate with impunity and employ tactics of fear and provocation," the statement noted.

Obama and his wife referred to these methods as "illegal, brutal, and degrading." The Obamas called on authorities to cease escalation and to constructively collaborate with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and local law enforcement to prevent further chaos and restore law and order.

The Obamas also expressed support for peaceful protests in Minneapolis and other cities across the United States.
