The Armenia Parliamentary 'Hayastan' Faction Boycotts Extraordinary Session and Leaves the Hall

During the discussion of the bill on amendments to the Electoral Code at the National Assembly's extraordinary session, MP Artavazik Minasyan spoke on behalf of the 'Hayastan' faction. He stated, 'We proposed to postpone the extraordinary session so that there would be proper discussions regarding the legislative changes through the involvement of both international representatives and all organizations conducting observation missions, as well as public discussions. However, we were rejected, not only rejected. We find such behavior unacceptable; it is yet another attempt to bring the electoral processes completely under the power's control and to legitimize electoral fraud. All of this is unacceptable and should be rejected.'

Following this, the MP announced that the 'Hayastan' faction would not participate in the discussion and left the hall.

National Assembly President Alen Simonyan addressed the absences of the parliamentary opposition, stating, 'Regarding non-participation, I must present the absences. I should note that since the assembly of the National Assembly over the past 4.5 years, we have had 244 sessions, and today, for instance, it is the 100th anniversary of Mr. Ishkhan Saghatelyan's absence. Congratulations,' said the Speaker, prompting applause in the hall.
