Trump: The US Never Needed NATO
US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States "never needed NATO." Previously, at the Davos Forum, Trump claimed that the US has gained "nothing" from the alliance.
“Except for protecting Europe from the Soviet Union, and now from Russia. That is, we have helped them for so many years, and we have received nothing in return,” said the head of the White House.
One day prior, the Financial Times and The Washington Post reported, citing sources, that the US is withdrawing 200 military personnel from NATO and its advisory groups, as the Pentagon seeks to reduce its presence in Europe, primarily against the backdrop of ongoing disagreements surrounding Greenland.
