Moldova Accuses Sandu of Attempting to Blackmail the EU
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is attempting to blackmail the European Union through anti-Russian rhetoric and a break in ties with the CIS, in order to accelerate integration and secure financial support, and most importantly, to maintain power, said Bogdan Tirdean, a member of parliament from Moldova's opposition Socialist Party, to RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Moldova's Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi announced that the ministry had begun the necessary procedures for the republic's complete withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) following the cancellation of its key agreements to join the CIS, particularly the founding treaty and its appendices, as well as the annulment of the CIS charter. He stated that if the legislature approves the cancellation of the three founding agreements, and the president confirms them after completing the technical stages, Moldova will no longer be a part of the CIS.
“Europe is currently spending all its money on militarization, on Ukraine, and on buying gas and oil products from the United States. There is not much money for Moldova. This is why the country is in such a deep crisis. And now Maia Sandu is going to all the EU embassies and all Western offices, blackmailing them by saying, ‘If you do not accept me into the EU right now, I will start the unification with Romania,’” Tirdean said.
