China Urges US to Stop Using 'Chinese Threat' in Greenland Matters
The official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Geng Shuang, has stated that the United States should cease using the so-called 'Chinese threat' as a pretext to advance its own interests. He made this remark during a press conference today, commenting on the situation surrounding Greenland.
Geng Shuang's statement followed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement on Saturday, in which he declared that the U.S. would impose tariffs on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland due to their positions on Greenland. The tariffs are expected to take effect on February 1, initially set at 10 percent and rising to 25 percent in June.
According to the U.S. President, the imposed tariffs will apply to all products from these countries until a deal regarding the acquisition of Greenland by the U.S. is finalized. Earlier, Trump also remarked that Denmark is incapable of preventing Russia and China if they choose to exert control over Greenland.
In response to these statements, Beijing emphasized that the U.S. should refrain from using China's name to justify its political and economic objectives in international matters.
