Syrskiy Announces Preparation for New Offensive Operations in Ukraine in 2026

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskiy, has announced preparations for new offensive operations in Ukraine in 2026 during an interview with a Ukrainian publication. He emphasized that despite the implementation of strategic defensive operations, the understanding remains that victory cannot be achieved through defense alone.

According to Syrskiy, Ukrainian troops will strive to maintain 'operational initiative.' This tactic, he explained, aims to compel the enemy to transfer significant forces and resources from priority directions to those parts of the front where the Armed Forces of Ukraine will conduct active operations, thereby dispersing and weakening its formations.

In the same interview, the Commander-in-Chief also addressed the issue of reinforcing units. He reported that soldiers returning to service after voluntarily leaving the military (VIL) are first sent to the front line. Priority is given to reinforcing those units that are tasked with operations in the most intense parts of the front where active combat occurs, and where there are casualties and a dire need for personnel replenishment.
