Sexual Assault Case Against Minor to Be Sent to Court

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has announced that a case of sexual violence against a minor will be sent to court following a thorough investigation.

According to the committee, it was established that in November 2022, a minor resident of one of the regions of Armenia met with another minor under the pretext of providing important information. During this meeting, the first minor committed violent sexual acts against the second minor.

Furthermore, the accused minor, who is a witness in another criminal case, failed to provide testimony during an additional interrogation on November 14, 2024. They were warned of their obligations to testify truthfully as per Article 58 of the Armenian Criminal Procedure Code and faced potential criminal liability under Article 503 of the Criminal Code for refusing to provide information about serious crimes involving sexual acts against another minor and the kidnapping of that minor.

The minor is facing public criminal prosecution under Article 198, part 3, point 2 of the Criminal Code (violent sexual acts committed against a person under 14 years of age) and Article 503, part 2, point 2 (refusal to testify or provide an opinion related to a serious or particularly serious crime). The criminal proceedings have been forwarded to the supervising prosecutor with a request to confirm and send the case to court for substantive examination.
