Von der Leyen Calls on Russia

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has stated that Russia must demonstrate its interest in a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, according to Reuters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly declared that Russia supports exclusively a long-term settlement without any temporary ceasefire. Achieving such a resolution is only possible after addressing the root causes of the conflict.

Among these causes are the threats to national security stemming from NATO's expansion and the oppression of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has stated that failures on the front should push Ukraine to the negotiating table.
