Support for Our Brave Clergy Who Join the Church's Cleansing and Restoration Process: MP from Civil Contract
The MP from the National Assembly's Civil Contract faction, Anush Gloyan, made a statement on her Facebook page, noting that the status of the Catholicos cannot be considered legitimate if obtained in violation of ecclesiastical rules.
“According to the established norms of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the fact of having children excludes the legitimacy of the election to the position of Catholicos. Over the years, the behavior of this individual has been anti-ecclesiastical and anti-state in nature, accompanied by silence towards the processes that have led to the plundering of the country, the disruption of state values, and human tragedies.
In these circumstances, any statement or directive from him cannot hold moral or spiritual authority for the Church and the faithful. Bishop Gevorg Saroian continues to serve as the leader of the Mashtots Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.
I express my support for our brave clergy who are joining the Church's cleansing and restoration process,” wrote Gloyan.
It is worth noting that Bishop Gevorg Saroian of the Mashtots Diocese was relieved of his duties as diocesan leader by a decision of Garegin II on January 10.
