UN Closely Monitoring Events in Iran
The United Nations is continuously monitoring the developments of events happening in Iran. This was announced by the official spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, addressing the current situation.
According to him, there is serious concern within the UN regarding the loss of human life during the unrest. Dujarric stated that the organization is attentively following the ongoing processes and their potential consequences.
The spokesperson emphasized that people in any country have the right to peaceful protest, and it is the responsibility of states to ensure the exercise of that fundamental right and the safety of citizens.
Dujarric also informed that all UN staff currently in Iran are safe, and the organization is in constant contact with its representative offices operating on the ground.
