European Parliament to Freeze EU-US Agreement
The European Parliament may suspend the trade agreement between the European Union and the United States due to threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Greenland, according to Politico.
It is noted that the agreement was deemed unacceptable by nearly all political forces, as it was seen as excessively favorable to Washington. During this period, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had presented the agreement as a means of supporting Trump.
However, this week Trump escalated his rhetoric, declaring that "we need Greenland for national security reasons" and repeatedly refused to rule out military intervention, the publication reports.
MEPs stated that the trade agreement with the U.S. should be suspended.
