Announcement of the Start of the Renovation of the Apostolic Holy Church: Statement by Pashinyan and 10 Bishops
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has published a statement on his Facebook page regarding the renovation of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church:
“Dear compatriots, we are currently at the Prime Minister's residence and have already discussed and agreed upon the text of the following statement: Announcement on the Renovation of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.
We, the undersigned, believing and remaining loyal to the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the faith sown by the preaching of the apostles Thaddeus and Bartholomew, and the efforts of St. Gregory the Illuminator and King Trdat III of Great Armenia, emphasizing the vital role and significance of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church in the development of our values-based society and the preservation of national identity, are concerned about the failure of the representatives of our Armenian Apostolic Holy Church’s de facto leader and his inner circle to live and preach according to the principles of the Gospel, the disturbance of spiritual life, and the glaring facts of moral decay. We condemn and consider unacceptable the uncanonical practices of dragging the Church into politics and serving various agendas and interests....
We announce the commencement of the renovation of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, which will be carried out according to the following roadmap,” said the Prime Minister.
The statement also mentions that the undersigned are forming a Coordinating Council, which will be responsible for the organizational functions of the renovation of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church. Its composition may be expanded by unanimous consent of the Coordinating Council.
