18% Increase in Drug Trafficking Case Resolutions, Says Minister of Internal Affairs
The activities of the Criminal Police have shown positive signals in terms of specialized areas of work, particularly in the fight against drug trafficking, which plays a crucial role in combating crime.
This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, Arpine Sargsyan, during the 'Citizen Asks' program.
'There has been an 18% increase in the resolution of cases related to drug trafficking. It is not that the drugs continue to escalate in Armenia, but taking into account the latent nature of this crime, we are now able to efficiently and effectively identify such cases as a result of our operational work. Compared to the same period last year, we have seized double the kilograms of drugs and removed them from circulation,' said the Minister.
Sargsyan noted that in terms of the Criminal Police's activities, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has focused its efforts on breaking the chain of drug importation and production. This means the agency is concentrating on neutralizing large shipments to avoid wasting more effort and resources on the detection of smaller batches in the future.
'With this approach, thanks to the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies, we have managed to remove 416 kg of drugs from overall circulation. Our goal is also to uncover instances of illegal mining and other types of entrepreneurial activities. The Criminal Police has been able to identify cases that have caused around 25 billion drams in damage to the state this year,' the Minister added.
