Azerbaijan Can Purchase Cognac and Tobacco from Armenia, Says Azerbaijani Economist

Evaluating the export potential of Armenia to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani economist Khalid Kerimli stated that it is first necessary to consider the overall structure of Armenia's exports to other countries. He made this remark in an interview with the Azerbaijani news outlet haqqin.az, commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that bilateral trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan could begin in the near future.

According to Kerimli, around 60–65 percent of Armenian exports consist of precious stones and metals, including gold and silver. “If we buy these, what shall we do with them? Naturally, we do not particularly need that,” he noted.

The economist also mentioned that Armenia exports electricity, machinery products, iron ore, and similar goods; however, in his assessment, Azerbaijan does not require those products. At the same time, Kerimli pointed out that tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and agricultural products may meet Azerbaijan's needs. He emphasized that Armenia has a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, and Armenian cognac is globally recognized.

Kerimli stressed that any potential supply must be evaluated from an economic viability perspective, adding that this is a matter for the future, where prices and other factors will play a decisive role.
