Circulation of Counterfeit Banknotes in Gegharkunik
The first alert regarding counterfeiting was received on December 13. The operational management center of the Gegharkunik region reported that a counterfeit banknote worth 50,000 was given to the salesperson at a pharmacy located on Myasnikyan Street in Martuni city. According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, "At approximately 18:30, a woman purchased goods worth 11,800 drams at the mentioned pharmacy, gave the pharmacist a counterfeit banknote worth 50,000, and received 38,200 drams in change.
Community police officers discovered that the act was committed by a 37-year-old resident of Abovyan city. It was also revealed that on the same day, she had conducted a transaction using a counterfeit banknote at a pharmacy located on Proshyan Street in Martuni city. In this case as well, she paid with a counterfeit banknote worth 50,000 and received 32,000 drams in change.
As a result of operational-investigative actions undertaken by community police officers, the 37-year-old woman was identified on December 15 and presented to the Martuni division. It was found that she had also used counterfeit banknotes on December 2 at two pharmacies in the Vardenik community of Gegharkunik region: at a pharmacy on Central Street, she paid with a counterfeit banknote worth 50,000 for purchases worth 9,000 drams and received 41,000 drams in change, while at a pharmacy on Shakhnya Street, she paid with a counterfeit banknote worth 50,000 for purchases worth 11,600 drams and received 38,000 drams in change before departing.
Subsequent measures revealed that the 37-year-old woman had committed similar offenses in other settlements throughout the country, always paying with counterfeit banknotes worth 50,000. Victims have filed complaints. Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the 37-year-old woman was arrested and presented to the investigative body along with the compiled documents," the report states.
