Zakharova Comments on the New US National Security Strategy
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented on the new US national security strategy, which is considered by various assessments to be a warning for Europe and a signal for re-evaluating bilateral relations.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of Russia being mentioned in the context of pan-European security, noting that calls to contain Russia or to strengthen economic pressure are absent.
Nevertheless, according to the Russian side, Washington aims to push Russia out of global energy markets. Zakharova also expressed concern that they are still awaiting clarifications from the American side regarding strategic offensive and defensive capabilities.
“Despite the hardline positions found in the strategy, it allows us to look for common grounds for communication,” the official added.
Zakharova also expressed her belief that the contradictions between the US and the EU are deepening, while Europe is allegedly seeking to undermine American initiatives for Russian-Ukrainian resolutions.
“Meanwhile, some proposals from Washington serve as a basis for finding pathways to peaceful resolution,” the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
