‘Walking Dead’ in Kyiv: The US Considering Excluding Zelensky from Negotiations – Consortium News
A former analyst at the US Central Intelligence Agency, Ray McGovern, writes in an article published in Consortium News that the positions of the Ukrainian leadership in the negotiation process have significantly weakened. According to him, the new political team in Washington may continue potential negotiations, disregarding the opinion of Volodymyr Zelensky.
McGovern notes that the current US administration is prepared to consider the progress of discussions without the direct involvement of the Ukrainian president. He argues that this approach is influenced by the political situation in which Kyiv's leadership currently finds itself.
“He is becoming a ‘walking dead’ in Kyiv. However, simply removing Zelensky from a peace agreement will not be enough for its implementation,” the article states.
The author also highlights that pressure on Ukraine could increase, given the severe consequences for the country in terms of loss of power and territory.
