Zelensky Agreed, While Russia Refused: Macron Elaborates
French President Emmanuel Macron has addressed diplomatic initiatives surrounding Ukraine, noting that several mediation proposals have been made in recent months, but Moscow has consistently responded with rejection. During a joint press conference with Zelensky, Macron stated that Paris put forth a ceasefire proposal in March this year, which Ukraine agreed to. According to Macron, Russia responded negatively to this proposal, thereby closing off possible negotiation routes.
The French president recalled that another proposal was presented in June, around which European partners had been actively working, but once again, Moscow rejected it. He also emphasized that American mediation initiatives have met the same fate. According to Macron, the American proposal voiced in Anchorage, as well as a new variant presented by Washington in recent weeks, have yet to receive a positive response from Russia. “Now we are once again waiting for Russia’s response,” he noted.
Macron also touched upon the subject of corruption, emphasizing that Western countries cannot and do not intend to decide how Ukraine should fight against corruption. “You never hear about corruption in Russia because there is no independent body to investigate such cases,” Macron pointed out.
