Changes to Examination and Assessment Procedures Announced by the Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education has presented a draft proposing changes to the order of examinations and assessments, which addresses issues concerning students who remain in the same class, those who are absent, and students deserving of commendation.
The draft stipulates that if a student receives between 1 to 3 points in any subject over the year, they must take a re-examination. Failing this stage and receiving the same low scores in at least two subjects will result in the student repeating the respective class.
Regarding the examinations at the end of the educational level, if after re-examination a student receives between 1 to 7 points (on a scale of 20) in at least two subjects, they will also remain in the same class.
Students who are absent for more than 200 hours throughout the year are required to take additional written examinations in all subjects of the educational curriculum. The decision regarding their further transfer will be made based on the results of the additional examinations or re-examinations conducted during the period from August 20 to 30.
The results of additional examinations are included in the semester and yearly grades of students assessed with point ratings. In classes where point ratings are not applied, the data from re-examinations are included in the student's semester and yearly profiles.
If a student does not attend the additional examinations or re-examinations, or in classes with point ratings obtains between 1 to 7 points in at least two subjects after re-examination, they must repeat the course for that year.
The draft also clarifies the criteria for excellence in classes without point ratings. It defines that in these classes, students who are recognized by the Ministry of Education with commendations must achieve a minimum of 70% at the 'A' level and a maximum of 30% at the 'B' level.
